Trademarks are protected in Egypt under the Egyptian IPR Law No. 82 /2002, The Second Book and its’ Executive Regulation. Egypt is a member of the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (Act of Stockholm of 1967). The International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks under the Nice Agreement is followed in Egypt and the revision of class 42 with the creation of classes 43 to 45 has been adopted as of January 1, 2002.
Usually, a trademark application takes approximately 12-18 months from filing up to registration (in a direct process) and once being registered it acquires legal protection for 10 years as from the filing date and may be renewed for simultaneous periods.

Requirements
Filing:
- Specimens of the mark.
- Applicant’s details namely name, legal entity, main address and nationality.
- class(es), specifications/list of goods.
- Certified copy of Priority Document (if any), (may be filed within 03 months from the filing date).
- POA duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate (may be filed within 06 months from the filing date).
Renewal:
- POA duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
- Filing number and registration date of the subject mark.
Assignment & merger:
- A Power of Attorney signed by the assignee and legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate. (To be filed along with the application).
- A commercial extract, certificate of incorporation, certificate of good standing or business license of the assignee legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
- A legalized deed of assignment duly signed by both parties and legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
- Name, address, nationality, legal status and profession or nature of business of the assignee.
License agreement
- A legalized license agreement legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
- A Power of Attorney in the name of the licensee and the licensor legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate. (To be filed along with the application).
- A commercial extract, certificate of incorporation, certificate of good standing or business license of the licensee and licensor legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
- The name, address, nationality and profession or nature of business of the licensee.
Change of Applicant’s Name/Address
- A Power of Attorney legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate. (To be filed along with the application).
- A certified certificate of the change of name or address legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
